Side effect management
Side effect management stands for the treatment and healing of symptoms that occur as a result of or directly after radiation therapy. In addition to providing optimal care for wounds, we also treat skin irritation and pain symptoms.
Continuing support
In the management of side effects, there are some therapeutic approaches that leave the spectrum of radiotherapy. Therefore, we maintain a cooperation with the Supportivzentrum München-Schwabing. There, patients receive extensive support – from nutrition plans to physical and mental exercise (such as Nordic walking and yoga).
Our radiotherapy locations in and around Munich
In our group of practices, we offer radiotherapy and associated side-effect management at various locations. Choose the one that is most convenient for you and get in touch.
The wound management
Depending on the tumor disease and radiation localization, different, quite individual complaints may exist and require interventions. For this purpose, we are at your side with great experience and empathy in order to make the therapy as pleasant as possible for you.
Through regular appointments with our trained health and medical nurses, radiogenic skin lesions can be detected early and quickly alleviated with the help of state-of-the-art wound materials. We are also happy to advise and support you with regard to suitable skin care products during radiation therapy. In addition, we offer laboratory checks, blood counts, blood pressure monitoring, port monitoring and infusion therapy as needed.
Low-level laser therapy
The side effects of radiation therapy can also be more intense, depending on the individual case. Inflammation, especially of the mucous membranes, or pain in the irradiation area are then possible effects. For their reduction, we use low-level laser therapy (LLLT) in individual cases. By means of a low-energy laser, specific points or entire areas are irradiated. Mainly the LLLT is used for:
- Treatment of mucositis (inflammation of the mucous membrane)
- Dermatitis (skin irritation)
- Wound healing disorders
- Pain
Low-level laser therapy does not have to be used consecutively, but can also be started at the beginning of radiation. This mitigates the expected side effects. The treatment has a low impact and no known side effects.
Low-Level Laser Acupuncture
Traditional Far Eastern medicine meets state-of-the-art laser technology. Acupuncture has become an integral part of the treatment of patients. However, laser acupuncture with low-energy lasers does not involve pricking with a fine needle, but rather painless stimulation or sedation with punctual laser light.
As a regulatory therapy, acupuncture can loosen energetic blockages and thus increase the well-being of the patient. Typical side effects, such as nausea, fatigue and weakness, anxiety and restlessness, can be positively influenced. As a complementary/integrative treatment method, laser acupuncture can therefore be very helpful, accompanying radiation therapy.
