As drivers of our metabolism, the hormones of the thyroid gland influence the entire development of our body. Whether it be growth, weight, skin, hair, muscles, or even our mental condition, a malfunctioning or diseased thyroid can have a variety of effects on our body and well-being.
With sonography or ultrasound imaging we can investigate malfunctions of the thyroid gland and examine its size, condition, and possible lump formations. If thyroid lumps are detected sonographically, or lab tests (blood counts) indicate a hyperfunction, a thyroid scintigraphy scan is frequently required. This examination depicts the iodine metabolism, i. e., the function of the cells. The result of this examination, e. g., the detection of hot or cold lumps, then determines further therapeutic approaches.
