Kidney function scintigraphy
While x-rays, computer tomography or magnetic resonance imaging primarily detect the morphology (shape, size, tissue alterations…), a kidney scintigraphy captures the function of the kidneys, and not only their overall performance, but also individually (separate performance). Furthermore, we can detect unilateral circulation delays as well as urinary obstructions.
This examination is very helpful, for example, to assess if an extensive enlargement of the renal pelvis indeed presents an obstructed urine passage that will require surgery. Or it may be equally important to know how much performance remains with the loss of one kidney, or if a hypertension condition may be caused by the kidneys.
